E-Scooter Trial at the University of Warwick (2022/23)

The purpose of the trial is to test and improve the performance, reliability and usability of the wireless charging system in a real-world but controlled environment.

A live CCTV stream from two cameras above the trial location will be available for remote viewing by specified Bumblebee employees via a secure app during the trial. The video stream will also be recorded for later analysis. The CCTV video data will be used for the following reasons:

  1. To correlate the electrical performance of the wireless charging with the physical position of the scooter on the charging pad.
  2. To identify the presence of foreign or live objects over the charging pad and to determine whether the wireless charging system takes the correct action
  3. To assess how the users park and access the e-scooters.
  4. To have a video record of any malfunction or unexpected behaviour of the system.
  5. To have access to a live feed to remotely check that the system is working correctly
  6. To showcase the useability of the charging pads to third party stakeholders, such as potential investors, customers, users, transport authorities and local authorities.

Data that is not useful to Bumblebee on review will be deleted, within 1 year of the end of the trial. Trial participants can request video data for up to one month after it has been recorded. In the case video is shared with third parties, trial participants will be blurred.
